The Great Hero

The battle had been going on for days.  No one had gotten any sleep; we couldn't.  Most of us have gotten used to the noise, but some still complained.  My brother, Brent, was out fighting right along with my grandfather.  They were both heroes  They were both brave.  They were both daring.  They were both all I had.  My parents left one day without explanation.  I remember it well.

Brent and I were outside playing soccer.  I wasn't very good at it, though, because I was only eight years old.  Grandfather was there for Brent's birhday.  We had played games, ate cake, made crafts, and joked around.  It was only the five of us.  We lived in the middle of no where, in Darren County.  Most people who lived out here were farmers, but not my parents.  They were artists.  My mom went out to get my brother's present; it was the only thing we had left to do.  When she had finally got home, Brent opened it with joy.  He screamed with happyness when he found out it was an Xbox.  I was happy for him.  Then, my parents left to go get the pizza, but they never came back.  My grandfather had to take care of us then.  It was so sad.  He was so kind and caring.  It was very hard for me to believe that my parents just left, but there was nothing I could do.

My grandfather is out there fighting right now, and I hope he comes back.  I want him to come back, because he is my hero.
